Release-based (Limon) and/or Cunningham techniques

Part-time

Term time

Salary £39.02 per hour

Join Elmhurst Ballet School and help shape the next generation of contemporary ballet artists.

Elmhurst Ballet School, in association with Birmingham Royal Ballet, is seeking inspiring and forward-thinking Contemporary Dance Specialists to join our Artistic Team, to help us prepare young dancers for today’s diverse and evolving industry.

We are looking for a dynamic practitioner who brings passion, creativity and rigour to the studio- someone who can challenge, support and elevate young artists as they grow in technical ability, physical intelligence, creative confidence and professional readiness.

About the Role

As a key member of our Contemporary Faculty, you will deliver high-quality training across a range of contemporary techniques including Release, Limón, Cunningham, contact work and improvisation - alongside experience or openness to drawing from commercial or culturally diverse styles.

You will nurture dancers through a comprehensive curriculum that prioritises:

  • technical excellence
  • physical conditioning and dance science-informed practice
  • musicality, phrasing and rhythmic play
  • creative problem-solving and choreographic development
  • ensemble collaboration and performance artistry
  • strong contact work

You will also play an active role in student support, choreography, rehearsals, performance preparation and pastoral care, helping students develop resilience, confidence and a strong sense of artistic identity.

About You

We welcome applicants who are:

  • Experienced teachers of contemporary dance with strong professional backgrounds.
  • Skilled in floorwork, contact work, improvisation and dynamic movement vocabulary.
  • Passionate about developing young talent through safe, inclusive and inspiring teaching.
  • Engaged with current industry practices and committed to lifelong learning.
  • Collaborative, organised and energetic, with excellent communication skills.

A recognised teaching qualification is desirable but not essential for the right candidate.
