Fundraising with a Smile

Thursday December 3rd 2020

From Amazon Smile to new costumes, fundraising initiatives continue to support our students. In turn, they have saved their pocket money and helped others too, not only closer to home but also further afield.

As we approach the Festive season and if you have an Amazon account please consider signing up to Amazon Smile to support Elmhurst Ballet School, a registered charity.

Amazon Smile offers exactly the same products, prices and service as the regular Amazon but with every purchase you make via Amazon Smile, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the total spent to your chosen charity at no additional cost to you or the charity. To find out more and to sign up, please go to smile.amazon.co.uk. You can login using your regular Amazon account details, then search ‘Elmhurst Ballet School’.

Once you’ve selected Elmhurst as your chosen charity, you will need to shop via smile.amazon.co.uk or the app every time you make a purchase in order for the school to benefit from this initiative.

 Friends’ support buys new costumes

Recently, we received an incredible £5,212 from the Friends of Elmhurst, which has enabled the school to purchase 78 original costumes and accessories from Birmingham Royal Ballet. These include tunics, tutus and headdresses from some of the company’s most celebrated productions such as Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Concert Fantasy and a full set of costumes for Elite Syncopations.

Our students are delighted and incredibly grateful to be able to wear these in future performances, which has all been made possible by the generous donations from the Friends of Elmhurst.

Students support local and international children and families

By saving their pocket money running up to Christmas, students from across the school have helped to provide 852 meals to families in need through a local food bank supported by The Trussell Trust.

The Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks and together they provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK. In the UK, more than 14 million people are living in poverty – including 4.5 million children. The Trussell Trust supports more than 1,200 food bank centres in the UK to provide a minimum of three days’ nutritionally-balanced emergency food to people who have been referred in crisis, as well as support to help people resolve the crises they face.

Lower School students also made Christmas gift boxes for ‘Love in a Box- Mustard Seed Relief Mission’ to send to under-privileged children in Eastern Europe. The boxes are filled with everyday essentials that many of the children in need would otherwise go without.
