Coronation Joy

Saturday May 6th 2023

Elmhurst has a long association with the Royal Family and has seen many royal visitors come through its doors over the years. In her role as Patron, HM Queen Camilla has supported the school since 2006. A number of Elmhurst staff were thrilled to attend Coronation celebrations to reciprocate Her Majesty’s support.

Ahead of His Majesty King Charles III Coronation weekend, Elmhurst’s Senior Leadership Team were invited to the King’s Coronation Garden Party where they reunited with the school’s Patron, Her Majesty Queen Camilla. Her Majesty said how much she enjoyed her recent visit to the school. Manpreet Sambhi, Assistant Principal overseeing Academics, was delighted to shake hands with His Majesty King Charles III.

We are aware that all Patronages are currently under review and we hope our association with Her Majesty Queen Camilla continues.

On Saturday 6 May, millions of people across the UK and around the world tuned into the Coronation. Elmhurst staff…Dr Sue Barbour, Rachel English, Sean Graham, Raluca Mihaila, Michelle Lester, Natalie Timbrell, Zoe Baxter and Alice Gibbins were amongst the crowd in the grandstand close to Buckingham Palace.

They had a lovely, albeit wet day! Below we capture some of their thoughts about attending the Coronation celebrations in London:

“I feel honoured and privileged to have experienced first-hand the parade of our King and Queen at their Coronation. To stand in front of the palace and watch our new King and Queen step out onto the balcony whilst having the Red Arrows fly directly over my head will be a memory that will stay with me for the rest of my life and will be a story I will share with my family for many years to come.”

“Visiting Buckingham Palace for the King’s Coronation was a great and unique experience which I will not forget. Despite the rain everyone was in great spirits and it was an enjoyable day from start to finish.”

“It was a wonderful experience being able to sit in the grandstand for the coronation last weekend! Seeing the red arrows fly right over our heads and past the Royal Family members on the balcony was something I will never forget.”

“The atmosphere was incredible! Such a magical and historical day to be a part of and I feel incredibly lucky to be given the opportunity to attend.”

“Being part of the Coronation on Saturday allowed us to see some of best things about being British – our ability to queue for everything and our resilience to sit doggedly for eight hours in the rain. I was really looking forward to the flypast – although it was scaled back, seeing the Red Arrows over the palace was impressive.”
