The Nutcracker Experience:

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s acclaimed production of Sir Peter Wright’s The Nutcracker returned to Birmingham Hippodrome this November and December, once again featuring a talented group of students from our Lower School, Graduate Year, and Elmhurst Young Dancers' weekend programme.

Performing in what many critics have hailed as the finest Nutcracker in the world (a title attributed to Sir Peter Wright’s production since its 1990 premiere in Birmingham) is undoubtedly a special experience for professional dancers. For our youngest Elmhurst students, this is an exceptional opportunity. This year, 12 students took to the stage alongside the celebrated artists of Birmingham Royal Ballet, performing to the live music of the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, and immersed in the spectacular set designs by John F. Macfarlane, all within the magic of this beloved Christmas ballet.

Students from Elmhurst’s Graduate Year, Lower School, and Elmhurst Young Dancers’ Programme joined forces with a number of school alumni, now dancing full-time with the Company under the direction of Carlos Acosta CBE. Alumni featured in the production included Alfie-Lee Hall, Marlo Kempsey-Fagg, Rosanna Ely, Olivia Chang-Clarke, and Ryan Felix.

Students involved in this year’s production of The Nutcracker:

From the Graduate Year:

  • Heng-Yu (Ted) Peng as Rats and Cadets

  • Josie Robinson and Lea Ellul Sullivan as Snowflakes and Flowers

From the Lower School:

  • Albert as Fritz

  • Oscar, Sebastian, and William as Party Children

From the Elmhurst Young Dancers’ Programme:

  • Lawson as Fritz

  • Freddie, Charles, Kit, and Pippa as Party Children

We extend our congratulations to all the students for their incredible performances!
