Elmhurst and Birmingham Royal Ballet

Wednesday April 13th 2022

Students from across the Lower and Upper Schools continue to benefit from our strong relationship with Birmingham Royal Ballet. With thanks to its Director, Carlos Acosta CBE, the young dancers experience sharing the stage with professional company dancers and the musicians of The Royal Ballet Sinfonia and behind-the-scenes with an array of dance and theatre technicians.

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s residency at The Rep theatre in Birmingham runs from Sunday 8th to Saturday 14th May. The residency kicks off with Dance Track 25 marking the 25th anniversary of the talent development scheme featuring Dance Track alumni and dance students including Elmhurst’s Year 12.

For the celebration, BRB’s Principal Character Artist and Assistant Répétiteur Laura Day has worked on a new creation of Cinderella with the Dance Track alumni and full-time vocational students. Elmhurst’s Year 12 students will be playing a variety of roles including Cinderella, Prince, Fairy Godmother and the Ugly Sisters.

Many Dance Track students go on to train with the Elmhurst Young Dancers’ Programme and have progressed to full-time vocational training and now work professionally across the sector. A perfect example is Jakob Myers who moved from Dance Track to Elmhurst and is now dancing with Ballet Cymru. This is a huge reason to keep dance in education alive, especially for those young people who might not have discovered ballet without being exposed to these incredible talent identification initiatives.
